RT-N66U or two RT-N53 as APs?

I'm trying to upgrade my home network and wireless.

The wi-fi clients are a MacBook Pro with Broadcom 802.111ac adaptor, various iPhones and iPads. I've definitely seen some dropouts in audio/video streaming via wi-fi from my old DIR-655. I also use a Slingbox 500 to stream video to my parents vacation home when they are out of town.

My Comcast internet connection is a 54Mbps/10Mbps. I'm currently testing a Buffalo WZR-N300HP router with their dd-wrt software.

Questions:
1. Does the WZR-N300HP have enough routing performance for having multiple clients streaming media in/out? (SNB tested LAN to WAN at 190Mbps). Will newer routers better support streaming protocols?

2. Will my Apple devices with Broadcom chips get better connections to wireless devices with the same chipset?

3. I have a solid Cat-5e backbone in the house so I can have a router in the basement and separate access points upstairs and downstairs or use one RT-N66u in the basement.
